Subaru WRX vs. Ford Focus

Subaru WRX compared to the Ford Focus

When it comes to compact cars, the Subaru WRX is one of the quickest and most powerful vehicles in its class. It's easy to see when compared to a car like the Ford Focus, that the WRX gives you the most performance and features for your money.

The WRX has the looks of a sports car and the 2018 model has a revised front end and revamped suspension tuning. With a bulging hood scoop to feed air to the engines top-mounted intercooler, the WRX has a flare you will not find in other compact vehicles. The Focus lacks the same flare in both its sedan and hatchback models. The flared fenders and a small lip spoiler on the rear add to the aggressive look of the WRX and it comes with 17-inch wheels with available 18-inch wheels.

Under the hood is where the WRX really shines. It looks like a sports car and runs like one too with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine generates 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque with all-wheel drive to grip the road and give more traction in all environments. The STI has a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine that has the kind of power that makes you take notice when you step on the gas pedal and pins you to your seat. With 305 horsepower and a six-speed manual transmission, the engine has the sports-car performance you want. The Focus also has a 2.0-liter engine but it only generates 160 horsepower.

If you want the benefit of all-wheel drive, the WRX has it as a standard feature. It has the power you need with the road-grip that you need for any driving condition. The Focus comes with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive is only available on the Focus RS.

Let's talk technology. Standard on the WRX is a 6.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system and on the higher end models get a 7-inch display and navigation system. Devices can connect to the system through a single auxiliary input and USD ports in the front and rear on the Premium and Limited models along with two 12-volt outlets. AppleCarplay and Android Auto come standard on the system and provides hands-free connectivity.

The Focus has Ford's Sync system with an 8-inch touchscreen and some of the same technology. More safety features are offered on the WRX models with CVT. A blind-spot monitor can be added to the manual transmission. Other options available for CVT models are Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Front Automated Emergency Braking, Lane-Departure Warning, Lane-Keeping Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Monitoring.

With the Subaru WRX STI Limited, standard feature with Recaro sport seats, a nine-speaker Harman Kardon audio system and other styling upgrades. The Focus Titanium has some luxury upgrades like leather seats and heated front seats.
